  • The integration introduces two versatile deployment options for Palo Alto Networks VM-Series virtual firewalls, provided by Prosimo — centralized and distributed.
  • The integration guarantees improved security and scalability at both the network and application layers.

Recently, a multicloud networking software company, Prosimo, partnered with Palo Alto Networks Inc. to implement zero trust for application workloads and multicloud environments.

Through this partnership, Prosimo’s Full Stack Cloud Transit platform now integrates with Palo Alto’s VM-Series Virtual Next-Generation Firewall, enabling enterprises to deploy security as close as possible to the workloads they protect. This architecture tackles challenges and gaps in securing application access across multicloud environments for both users and workloads.

Prosimo contends that most current integrations focus on orchestrating firewalls and placing them in the path of cloud network traffic, using IP addresses and port numbers to redirect traffic. In contrast, Prosimo’s approach, integrated with Palo Alto Networks, is said to differ by delivering a more targeted method that directs only the traffic requiring advanced inspection to the firewall.

In this integration, Prosimo offers two flexible deployment models for Palo Alto Networks VM-Series virtual firewalls: centralized and distributed.

The centralized option deploys the VM-Series virtual firewall into a centralized virtual private cloud for traffic flowing east-west (between virtual private clouds) or north-south (from the cloud to on-premises traffic and internet egress and ingress). When a VPC needs to be isolated and has local ingress or egress, the distributed option deploys the VM-Series virtual firewalls in each virtual private cloud.

The integration ensures enhanced security and scalability across both the network and application layers. Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Firewalls provide thorough Layer 7 inspection, complemented by Prosimo’s network segmentation spanning from Layer 3 to Layer 7, along with zero-trust access for all traffic patterns in the cloud.

Senior Product Manager at Palo Alto Networks, Vitaliy Sivetskiy, said, “Integrating Prosimo’s Full Stack Cloud Transit and Palo Alto Networks VM-Series virtual firewall makes network security teams’ lives easier. Our single intuitive operating model for connectivity and virtual firewall insertion means customers have more time to focus on application business innovation versus managing network and security infrastructure. This enables organizations to help protect all clouds, the right way, with agility.”

Prosimo is a startup backed by venture capital, having secured USD 55 million across two funding rounds, as reported by Tracxn. Among the investors in the company are BlackRock Inc., General Catalyst Group Management LLC, DTCP Usa LLC, Celesta Capital LLC, and Redline Capital Management LLC.
